Alleged North Korean Operative Makes First U.S. Court Appearance

This article was especially interesting as it involves possible criminal activity with an individual related to the U.S.’s biggest threat at the moment, North Korea. Mun Chol Myong is facing several counts of money laundering and conspiracy. “According to the indictment, Mr. Mun’s company procured sensitive technology, agricultural commodities and luxury goods including liquor and tobacco for North Korean customers. The company used another hair-and-beauty-products front company to make payments in U.S. dollars and hide any connections to North Korea” (Viswanatha). After reading the article, it seems like they accusations are pretty legit. It will be interesting to see how the U.S. handles this legal situation as it obviously involves foreign affairs and more particularly one of our biggest threats. North Korea is aware of the situation and claims that he was participating in completely legal activities. Mr. Mun is currently detained and was just transferred from Malaysia to the United States. I believe that the U.S. is attempting to do the correct legal thing and I respect them for doing so. However I wonder how this whole situation will impact the already shaky relationship between the two countries.
