The US is at an interesting and critical phase in the COVID-19 pandemic, as COVID cases are on the rise again (reported cases 7-day average is up 16% from one week prior), while at the same time the vaccination effort is ramping up. Eased restrictions and the presence of newer, more contagious variants of the virus are largely responsible for the increase in cases. This is going to remain an important thing to keep an eye on, as the US is still months away from even getting close to achieving a vaccination rate high enough to achieve herd immunity; as of today, only 15.5% of the US population is fully vaccinated.
