Italy Heads Into Another Lockdown

Starting on Monday March 15, Italy will go on another government lockdown due to a recent uptick in Covid-19 variant cases across the UK. This variant is more contagious and due to slow vaccine rollout, has caused a 15% increase in the past week. Prime Minister Mario Draghi knows that another lockdown will greatly affect children's schooling, the economy, and the psychological state of his citizens, but he believes that this can prevent the situation from further worsening and causing more deaths. Most areas in Italy such as Lazio and Marche, will shut schools down and forbid residents from leaving their homes except for essentials such as work, health-related outings, pharmacies, and grocery stores. Restaurants will remain closed as well. Only a little over a million people have been vaccinated, and due to shortages and delivery delays of doses, the vaccine has not been able to reach as many people as they'd like. The government set a goal of vaccinating up to 80% of it's citizens by September, and the plan will be carried out by an army general picked out by the Prime Minister. The army general plans to have mass vaccination sites and many more production sites as well.
