BBC world news reported on the severe weather wreaking havoc on Australian citizens. They have stated "about 18,000 Australians have been evacuated from flooding across New Wales.” This is a huge amount of the population displaced and has caused many residences to be swept away in flood waters. Individuals have been stranded in their homes and cars, resulting in more than 500 rescues. Two rivers (Hawkesbury and Nepean) have reached record levels since 1961 and flights have been canceled after a runway was flooded in Newcastle. After the extreme wildfires last year, it is not surprising we are seeing extreme weather events, including the current devastation from flooding.
