In Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, on Sunday morning, there was a fleet of immigration agents to enforce Mexico's new constraints on all but essential travel at the shared border of Mexico and Guatemala. Immigration officers were gathered at the riverside and would not let immigrants through without the proper documentation stating their essential travel. Many were turned away and forced to leave. Most of the migrants are simply merchants and residents from Tecun Uman, from across the river, who buy in bulk in Mexico to resell items in Guatemala or purchase household items when the exchange rate favors it. What the migrants are saying is that officers have not let them in because they think the migrants are only coming to shop. When in reality, they are coming so they can purchase items to make an income.
