Myanmar Coup Heats Up in Deadliest Day to Date- Dalton Willett BLOG #7

The world of international politics is ever changing and stories flow in out of relevance daily. One story that has been rock solid in terms of its level of importance is the military coup in Myanmar. Not only has this been the talk of the international political scene since the story hit the presses months ago, but it just got a lot more interesting. Myanmar just had the deadliest day ever since the military took over. 38 people were killed and Martial Law was implemented after 6 Chinese factories were set on fire. The worse of the violence took place in Yangon where police opened fire on unarmed protestors, killing 22. Violence was also high in Mandalay and Bago where a 16 more were killed including a police officer that died of chest wounded after tangling with protestors. My opinion on this is mulit-faceted and I will admit, I do not have much background on the complex details of military coups but chances are, this goes no where good and by looking at past military coups and how those were resolved, I have little faith this is going to be the last day of violence, nor the worst day of violence. With the police feeling empowered to attack protestors, the protestors are going to be empowered to fight back and I think we are going to see a lot of targeted attacks on cops which is going to make them more paranoid and because of that violence will increase.
