Although Pope Francis stated in a documentary film last year that he endorsed same sex civil unions, the Vatican has said that the Catholic church cannot bless same sex unions, as God “does not bless sin”. This is particularly upsetting, not only because of Pope Francis’ previous statement, but also because of all the gay catholics who still are religious and believe in God’s love. Pope Francis approved the decree from the Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith, saying that such blessings “cannot be considered licit”. This decree says that homosexual inclined people must be welcomed and respected, but cannot have their unions blessed.
