UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this past Tuesday that Russia is Britain's top security challenge at the moment. The UK has decided to begin building more nuclear weapons, as well as explanding London's space and cyberspace presence. A plan has been put in place to increase Britain's defense budget by a staggering $33 billion in the next four years. Other investments are also being made financially towards climate change efforts, pandemic relief, and research in science and technology. China is another large actor on Britain's radar, describing Beijing as "the biggest state-based threat to the UK's economic security" (Lendon, 2021). The UK made it clear that they are staying true to their strong alliance with NATO, but are preparing for the large economic and political shift that both China and Russia may bring to international politics.
