Illinois is set to allow any person over the age of 16 to receive the Covid-19 vaccine on April 12, as of right now Pfizer is the only vaccine that can be used on children ages 16 and 17. Pfizer has begun testing their vaccine in children younger than 12, they have vaccinated two twin girls, age 9, at Duke University in North Carolina on Wednesday. Moderna as well is set to begin similar trials with the goal of proving their vaccine can be used in children as young as 6 months old. Many hope that Immunizing children will help schools to re-open softly while also helping the US reach herd immunity quicker. Official's explain that even with many adults opting to get the vaccine, children make up about 23% of our population so, even if every adult got vaccinated we could not reach herd immunity.
