This
article exposes just how anti democracy China is and their relationship with
Hong Kong. In Beijing, Police have arrested 39 men and eight women because they
were a part of a democracy camp. If convicted, they will most likely serve
years in prison. This event has led China to tightening Hong Kong’s political
structure and have set a high standard for bail for those who are charged with
being involved with democracy as it is now a national security law. All 47
individuals that were arrested were hit with national security charges.
Furthermore, the Chinese government has continued this expulsion of democracy
by removing four members of its legislature who were pro democracy. It is a
fascinating situation to read about as it is crazy to see how controlling the
Chinese government is over Hong Kong as well as how little free speech they
allow their citizens. People are facing significant jail time simply for
believing in democracy. Whether it is ethically right or wrong, I can
confidently say that something like this would not fly in the U.S. so it is
interesting to read about how other countries handle situations differently.
