"Australia accuses China of shining laser at warplane"

A Chinese navy ship has reportedly shined a "military grade" laser towards one of Australia's warplanes on Thursday. The Australian defense ministry has condemned China's "unprofessional and unsafe military conduct", but China has not commented on the incident. Similar laser incidents have been reported in the past by Australian media. The plane affected was an aircraft that had weapons systems and sensors for detecting submarines. Although Australia and China have had good relations in the past with China being Australia's biggest trading partner, their relationship has broken down in recent years. One example of this is how China has said that the security alliance between Australia, the United States, and the UK has risked "severely damaging regional peace . . . and intensifying the arms race".
