Australia criticizes the Chinese navy for point a laser in the direction of an Australian Air Force jet which was flying over the Arafura Sea at the time. Australia lays the foundation for its criticisms by highlighting the effects such lasers can have on the pilots when they're trying to fly, such as painful and blotchy vision and even temporary blindness. Reports like these aren't uncommon for the two countries and continue to add to military tensions between the two. With incidents like these and Australia's increasingly close relations with Western powers, the UK and US in particular, the two countries become more and more at odds with each other which suggests that in the potential future of a bipolar world, Australia will likely be one of the countries aligned with the US to balance against China.
