North Korea bragged that it is one of only a handful of countries to stand up to the U.S. by initiating missile tests. In January they had a record amount of tests-one of them being the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile which is capable of striking U.S. territories in the Pacific Ocean. Their Foreign Ministry said that the series of tests represented a strengthened "war deterrence". The United States told North Korea to defund its nuclear missile programs and focus on the needs of its people.
