NBA to start a basketball league in Africa

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/17/africa/nba-africa-basketball-league/index.html

The NBA is creating a professional basketball league in Africa that will start play next year. It will include 12 teams from several countries across the continent. There are several basketball teams and leagues across the continent now, but this new league will unify them and hopefully lead to more profit and popularity for them. Barack Obama tweeted about the announcement, celebrating the power of basketball and the progress for Africa. Several NBA players have come from Africa, including Joel Embiid who is a star for the 76er's. This announcement made me think about America's soft power. Basketball is really becoming an international sport and I think it's one of the alluring American pastimes. This type of PR helps the fight for democracy in Africa.
