Tracking Mexico's cartels in 2019: Turf war clashes will rage on

As Mexico's murder rates steadily rise, with most being drug related, 2018 was no exception to this pattern. The homicide number for the country reached more than 33,000 for 2018 alone, surpassing 2017 rates by nearly 4,000 homicides. Overall, the country has seen increased amounts of crime due to cartel activity, the most violent parts include the Sinaloa cartel, Tamaluipas cartel, and the Tierra Caliente cartel. The cartel business has affected every part of the country, including generally safe areas and tourist locations. Although cartel violence is usually directed towards another cartel, or the Mexican government, bystanders are at risk if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
