U.S. Aid for Venezuela Stuck at Boarders - Sam Glodoski

Sam Glodoski

As the political crisis in Venezuela continues, acting "leader", Nicolas Maduro, refuses to allow aid from the U.S. in the form of food and medicine to enter the country. While doing so, his country suffers from a major food shortage and all hospitals lack a substantial amount of medicine. This nation-wide shortage is causing numerous Venezuelans to travel to neighboring countries in search of these resources. Meanwhile, to assist the Venezuelan people, and make a political statement regarding its support of self-declared president Juan Guaido, the U.S. has begun to fly shipments of aid to Columbia, where it has been stopped at the Venezuelan boarder. Maduro has stated he believes the U.S. deliveries are an attempt by the U.S. to invade Venezuela and has threatened to position troops at the boarder. On the other hand, Guaido has called for the aid to be allowed in, claiming approximately 600,000 Venezuelans would volunteer to assist with the transport. In summery, the situation has become a controversial one, concerning both humanitarian efforts and displays of political affiliation.
