INF Nuclear Missle Treaty

In the article “Russia follows U.S. in suspending INF nuclear missile treaty,” written by Mary Ilyushina, Jack Guy, and Steven Jiang for CNN describes the recent action made by Vladimir Putin, the current president of Russia, to suspend a treaty with the United States. This action follows follows threats by the United States unless Moscow follows its terms for 180 days. It is important to note that the United States and Russia have been participants in this agreement following the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. The INF nuclear missile treaty has been an important assurance to European security since its creation. The United States, primarily, President Donald Trump has accused Russia of violating the treaty since 2014. Thus making the U.S. want to drop out of the agreement. Although Putin claimed to not want to engage in another arms race, he recently ordered to creation of a new missile, sending off some suspicious notions. Following this announcement, Chinese Foreign Minister Geng Shuang, discussed his opposition to this development. Geng claims that the treaty helps ease international tensions, and Russia and the United States should come up with a plan to continue the treaty.
