Flush With Covid-19 Vaccines, Hong Kong Struggles to Find Takers

Opposed to the rest of the world, Hong Kong, China seems to be in no rush to be vaccinated. The country seems to have access to vaccination at high rates but immunization sites seem to consistently be running below capacity due to the lack of individuals who have had the urge to sign up. Because of the slow amount of sign-ups, experts fear that it will take until at least the end of the year for the country to reach herd immunity and even then, this would only be 66% of the population that would be vaccinated. Many feel that the people of Hong Kong are so hesitant to receive the vaccine because of how politically divided the area is. Many are waiting to see not only how the vaccine affects other individuals physically before they receive it, but they are also basing their decisions about whether or not they will receive based on political beliefs and how people of their party will react to the vaccine rollout in Hong Kong. Not only does this slow down reopening for the city, but also this will cause the rest of the world to be very hesitant to travel to and from this area as the world begins to reopen again due to the high demand for vaccines everywhere else in the world.
