Heightened Anxiety Leads to Fortified City

The trial of Derek Chauvin, former Minneapolis police officer being tried for the death of George Floyd last year, is coming to a close with the final arguments taking place today. With that comes an upgrade in emotions with everyone across the country and more specifically in Minneapolis feeling the tension of this decision. The city has essentially become a fortress with streets being lined with members of the Coast Guard to attempt to settle any possible chaos that may ensue with either verdict. This case has been one that has weighed heavily on the minds of civilians and Police departments across the country and thus one can justify the need for such a tremendous amount of support to prepare for possible chaos and anything else that may come with it. It was Floyd's death back in May of 2020 that started an uproar over the Police and their excessive uses of force and brutality towards African Americans. This of course is not the first instance of police violence towards the black population in America and almost certainly won't be the last. However, one can be hopeful that this trial and the impacts it has that are yet to come are ones that are positive in helping all people of America feel safe in the country they call home, especially from those who are by oath there to serve and protect.
