U.S. and Iran Agree to Indirect Talks on Returning to Nuclear Deal

In this article, authors Steven Erlanger and Farnaz Fasihi write about President Joe Biden's plans to make a new nuclear deal with Iran. The United States left the previous nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, replacing it with tough nuclear sanctions that ultimately didn't accomplish the goal of ceasing or even slowing Iran's uranium enrichment practices. Erlanger and Fasihi also note that Iran will have enough enriched uranium to make one nuclear bomb, so time is of the essence.

I think it's good that the US and Iran are working towards making a new deal. I can only imagine how stressful and aggravating the process has been for Iran. The US changes its mind with every president, which makes it impossible to maintain a steady course. In class, we spoke about why Iran should have a nuclear weapon. So, perhaps it won't literally or figuratively be the end of the world if they have one but I think everyone can agree that the fewer nuclear weapons there are in the world, the safer the world will be.
