In an attempt to open up a key shipping route between Asia and Europe Russia has began testing weapons and accumulating military might in the Arctic. Due to the ice melting in accordance with the climate crisis Russia has been able to establish military strong holds in the region. American officials are worried about the weapons Russia has access to one in particular being the Poseidon 2M39 torpedo. Putin has said that this weapon is in a key testing stage in a statement made back in February of this year. This weapon is powered by a nuclear reactor and is considered to be a stealth weapon. It is interesting to me that the Arctic is being developed in this way and I am curious to see how the West will respond to this development in Russia. There is no doubt Russia has always tested the waters in terms of pushing the US and being a provacatour. Will the US attempt to slow down Russian development? Will they too begin to develop the arctic to control this massive trade route and opportunity? These are the questions I have and I will be watching closely.
