Opening Day in Arlington

The Texas Rangers held their first home game of the 2021 stadium in the newly built, yet scarcely used, Globe Life Field. The Rangers became the first sports team in America to allow full attendance to their stadium with just under 40,000 fans in attendance. Texas is also one of the states that has lifted their mask mandates thus meaning this was not a required staple at the event, though they were said to be "required". Is this a sign of America returning to normal or more of a showing of ignorance? Most would pick the latter. Many of the fans new of rules to wear a mask unless eating or drinking, which makes sense when considering the shoulder to shoulder fit of the stadium seating. However, many pictures can be seen of fans who were not indulging in ballpark treats who were also opting out of wearing a mask. This has caused quite a buzz in the baseball world as well as the country as a whole and rightfully so. There is a right and a wrong way to do things and if fans cause another spike in the pandemic then once again stadiums will be forced to either limit fans, as many ballparks are, or eliminate fan attendance for the time being once again. While many inside the stadium that day view themselves as pioneers, many have other adjectives they would like to use. We can only hope other ballparks and teams limit the risk and that the Rangers are not starting a downward trend.
