In this article, West examines a very tragic situation that just recently transpired involving another police officer killing a man. In this situation, the victim, Daunte Wright, was pulled over because of air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror. Upon pulling him over, the officers realize that there is a warrant out for his arrest. They take him out of his car to arrest him, but he maneuvers his way back into the car. As he does so, one of the officers repeatedly warns him that she will use her taser. He continues and she shoots what she allegedly thought was her taser but was in fact her gun. This gunshot wound ends up killing Mr. Wright. It is a very messy situation and it will be extremely interesting to see how it is handled in court. My two initial questions were how do you pull someone over for air fresheners and how do you mistake your gun as your taser? At the same time though, the body cam footage shows signs that the officer was shocked that she shot him and the use of a taser, which she allegedly thought she was using, would be the proper protocol in the situation that happened. It is a very tragic event, and it is also unclear how it will be dealt with in a legal stance. It has also grasped the attention of seemingly the entire nation as it is thought to be another racial situation as an African American man was yet again killed by a police officer.
