The former prince of Jordan, Hamzah bin Hussein, vowed to defy the orders of the government and his half brother, King Abdullah II, to stop communicating with the world as he is under house arrest. The government accused Prince Hamzah of destabilizing the "security and stability" of Jordan. The Jordanian foreign minister suggested that the former prince was involved in a failed palace coup with foreign backing. King Abdullah named Hamzah crown prince in 1999 but stripped him of the title in 2004 and gave it to his son, Prince Hussein. Hamzah has been trying to rebuild his public image and was accused of directly working with a former finance minister and a junior member of the royal family to target the "security and stability of the nation".
