Putin Moves 100,000 Troops to Ukraine Border

Moscow has amassed nearly 100,000 troops at the border between Russia and Ukraine. Within days of these troops being deployed, Putin also sent a fleet of more than ten heavily armed warships towards the Caspian sea. With these recent moves from Russia, it's clear to see that they are preparing for an invasion. This marks the most troops that Russia has ever had near the Ukrainian border since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. The White House has hinted recently of sending warships to the Black Sea, where Russian ships are moving towards the Caspian Sea.

There aren't many options for Russia at this point. This display of hostility nearly guarantees a western response, most likely in the form of sanctions. So the options that Putin has are to do nothing and deal with these sanctions, seek a diplomatic resolution, or to invade Ukraine for the third time. The stance of the US is unwavering support for the Ukraine. However, the US often has been reluctant to intervene militarily in foreign affairs.

Overall, this action by Putin yields no possibility for a positive outcome. The most likely outcome is more hostility from the Russian regime, which will fuel this war to continue, and possibly lead to a much larger scale European conflict.
