“Armenia Azerbaijan: Reports of Fresh Shelling Dent Ceasefire Hopes”

The continued fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalates. Armenia was accused of sending a missile strike against one of Azerbaijan’s cities. Each side blames the other for the ensuing conflict. The truce is very precarious and around 300 people have perished since the last of September. Russia intervened to create the agreement between the two groups. Armenia violated the truce and attacked just after the truth had been secured. The conflict has continued throughout last week as both sides accuse the other of damaging important places. In the 80s Armenia and Azerbaijan went to war over disputed territory. Lives of the Nagorno-Karabakh's have been interrupted because of the conflict, the area which was the disputed territory. The purpose of the ceasefire that was facilitated by Russia was so it each country could collect their dead and swap prisoners of war. Additionally, in the dispute, Turkey stands with Azerbaijan, which is not surprising because they do not recognize the Armenian Genocide. I have been following the story in several of my blogposts and it seems like the conflict is rising and based upon the readings and how long it has been around, it does not seem like it will go away soon. I also think because of the other players in the dispute, it makes it harder for the situation to be diffused. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54488386 Jena Livesay
