Corona Virus: Australia opens 'travel zones' to New Zealanders

New Zealand citizens will be granted access to Australia starting October 16- this is the first opening of international border by both countries since they closed their borders in March due Covid. Specifically, citizens will be able to fly from New Zealand to New South Wales and the Northern Territory in Australia. However, only New Zealand citizens will be able to travel for now and the Prime Minister of Australia will have to decide later when Australian citizens will be able to travel to New Zealand.

Australian officials said New Zealand visitors had a low risk of transmitting Covid-19 since they currently do not have any hotspots, which is defined as at least three local infections per day across a three day rolling average.

The most recent Covid case in New Zealand was reported on August 21 and the Australian Northern Territory has not recored any cases in two months.
