Kyrgyzstan Election: Opposition 'Seize' Power After Protests

Protesters are saying that the Kyrgyzstan parliamentary elections were rigged, and the Central Election Commission recently declared the election invalid. The president has been accused of vote-buying and voter intimidation. Opposition parties gathered to protest on Monday, which was mostly peaceful until late into the evening.

After violent protests erupted and government buildings and security forces were overran, president Sooronbai Jeenbekov said that he was ready to stand down and is "ready to give the responsibility to strong leaders."

A Coordination Council has been set up by opposition leaders, however it has yet to be decided who will take on governmental powers.
