Belarus Police Detain Protesters

In the Belarus capital of Minsk there were major protests going on this week. At the protest, masked police arrested countless protesters and the others were dispersed with water cannons and stun grenades. There have been protests going on in Belarus since August 9th, when President Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner in a highly disputed election. Protesters have been demanding that he step down and for there to be a new election. At the protest in Minsk today (October 11th 2020) at least 140 people were detained and more were detained at protests occurring on the same day. Countries like the U.S. and the United Kingdom have already accused Belarus' election of fraud and human rights violations by opposing sanctions. As of right now, the story is still developing.
