France Teach Attack: Rallies held to Support Beheaded Samuel Paty

A teacher in France was beheaded because he showed his students a picture of the Prophet Muhammad in class. 11 people in total have been arrested in relationship to the crime. Many people protesting have started using the saying “We Are France,” and “Je suis enseignant”. The President of France has remarked that it looks like a terrorist attack. In 2015 a cartoonist Charlie Hebdo was killed after publishing a picture of the Prophet. Many of the protests have been taking place in the Place de la République and in 2015 around 1.5 million people showed up in support of Hebdo. Mr. Paty will also be given a national tribute on Wednesday. The apparent person who killed the Mr. Paty, snuck up on him with a knife and cut off his head, the suspect also had no connection with the teacher or with the school he worked for. The suspect was then killed by police. The teacher himself had used the picture of the Prophet as a way to show free speech and asked Muslim students to not look if in case the image might upset them. Mr. Paty has also received criticism in the past from parents and others in the community. Jena Livesay https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54589241
