Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the curfew will go into effect Sunday night. The curfew will restrict free movement in the country from 11PM to 6AM but will exempt medical needs, work, and care. The curfew will likely remain in place for the next six months as the country will try to get through the winter months with COVID. Spain does not want a repeat of the collapse of the country's hospitals that happened during the first wave of COVID. The curfew can be changed by the leaders of Spain's regions but has to stay within the time from of 10PM to 12AM and 5AM to 7AM. Spain is following the lead of neighbor France, who implemented a 9PM to 6AM curfew early this week. Health officials believe nightlife and parties are to blame for the newest infections in the country. Spain became the first European country to surpass 1 million official COVID-19 cases this week.
