China has officially joined COVAX, which is a world coronavirus vaccine alliance. China joins the alliance after already having at least four vaccines in the final stage of testing. COVAX is an initiative to distribute COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, in the hopes of eradicating the virus at the worldwide level instead of state by state. The exact terms of the agreement between all of the countries, specifically China, in COVAX but countries can choose to buy vaccines that cover up to 50% of their population through COVAX. The agreement is looked to be more of an insurance policy for most countries. However, China joining the initiative is a huge step for COVAX which is also backed by the World Health Organization. The U.S. has refused to join COVAX and has instead negotiated deals directly with pharmaceutical companies. China joining COVAX gives them a world leader that they were lacking with the U.S.
