Activist Tony Chung was Tuesday in Hong Kong in a cafe across the street from the American Embassy while attempting to seek asylum. He was the former leader of the organization Studentlocalism which had called for outright the succession of HongKong from mainland China. Chung had disbanded his group hours before a new Chinese security law aimed aimed at quashing dissent took effect. This could further increase tensions between the US and China because of recent clashes over their handling of protests in HongKong, the new security law and Trump's statements that HongKong protester would he given political asylum.
