On Tuesday, a Greek man, Ioanis Paraskakis, was convicted of raping and murdering an American scientist, Suzanne Eaton. The 28 year old Greek citizen was sentenced to life in prison by a judge in the town of Rethymno. It was reported by authorities that the American was on a hike last July when Paraskakis attacked her. Several days later, Eaton's body was found in a World War II-era storage site underground in Chania. The scientist, originally from New York, was working in Germany at Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. She was conducting research on a variety of gene therapy measures that could have saved lives. On the news, I heard that fellow scientists at the facility said she was an intelligent member of their team and will be dearly missed.
