Nigeria Dissolves Controversial Police Unit Accused of Brutality

Earlier today, Nigeria's Inspector General of Police announced in a statement that they were dissolving the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, known as SARS.  There have been ongoing protests against the unit and police brutality across Nigeria, where one man died and several others were injured, as Nigerian police fired live ammunition and tear gas on protesters.  Amnesty International describes SARS as using torture methods including hanging, mock execution, and sexual violence.
