Jacinda Arden, New Zealand's prime minister, won a second term in a landslide election. Arden's Labour party, which is left-leaning, won 49% of the vote compared to just 27% for the next highest party, the right-leaning National Party. The New Zealand parliamentary system generally meant coalitions had to be built, however this time, the Labour party has full autonomy to govern. A primary reason for this has been Arden's ability to prevent COVID spread throughout the nation of 5 million people. Currently, there are no social distancing or masks requirements in place. This year's ballot included questions on marijuana legalization and euthanasia; both results have yet to be announced.
