Israel stops issuing visas to UN human rights agency

Israel stopped issuing visas to United Nations human rights worker in Palestine, which forced 9 out of 12 of them to leave, and the visas of the remaining three are set to expire in the next few months. Omar Shakir, the Israel and Palestine director for Human Rights Watch, said "forcing out human right monitoring groups is part of a clear strategy that aims to muzzle documentations of Israel's systematic repression of Palestinians." Israel claims he supported calls to a boycott and Shakir says this move is apart of a wider trend where Israel is denying entry to human rights worker who have criticized Israel.

The government also banned Mohammed Assaf, a Palestinian pop singer from returning home. Politicians say it was because Assaf released a video that called for resistance against the occupation of Palestine. Assaf posted on Instagram saying "nothing but a continuation of the policies of oppression and curbing the freedoms suffered by my people to whom I belong in heart, form, entity and spirit and it will not stop me loving and singing about my country in every state."
